The team behind Deported Radio has been experimenting with surround and cloud technology for over 4 years. Deported Radio started a pilot broadcast in 7.1 surround sound through deported.fm in February 2018. Deported Radio started fully broadcasting 24 hours a day on May 15, 2018.

All in our team have an incredible passion for music. We breath and live music. And we want to offer the highest sound quality possible on the Earth because we also want to listen to it. Deported Radio supports artists and therefore pays for license fees. We are registered and pay license fees to all major global music rights organizations.

On May 30, 2018, Deported Radio started a partnership with Apple Music to provide to our listeners the best music content. We started processing in our studio all the tracks we broadcast to convert them to 7.1 Surround.

From June 16, 2018, Deported Radio became again a surround broadcasting pioneer, when started broadcasting in ambisonics surround sound. Ambisonics is a full-sphere surround sound technique: in addition to the horizontal plane, it covers sound sources above and below the listener. Unlike other multichannel surround formats, its transmission channels do not carry speaker signals. Instead, they contain a speaker-independent representation of a sound field called B-format, which is then decoded to the listener’s speaker setup. This extra step allows audio producers at Deported Radio to think in terms of source directions rather than loudspeaker positions, and offers the listener a considerable degree of flexibility as to the layout and number of speakers used for playback.
